“A gadfly is a person who upsets the status quo by posing upsetting or novel questions.” (Wikipedia)

Plato first used the term to describe Socrates.

I want to be one of those.

Except that people tend to swat gadflies.  Or make them drink poison.   Or run them out of town.

I want everybody to like and approve of me.  Which is an unrealistic expectation in this line of work.

Three morals in this story,

1. Society is a horse that sometimes must be goaded to move.

2. Gadfly is a noble profession.

3. But a lot of them are martyred in the end.

Yours with creativity and imagination,

Darlene
